BLUE Alert Issued for Suspect in Shooting of Alvarado Police Officer at Texas ICE Detention Center

TEXAS, USA — A manhunt is underway for Benjamin Hanil Song, who is accused of shooting an Alvarado police officer during an attack on the Prairieland Detention Center, an ICE-operated facility in Texas, on July 4.

The FBI has identified Song as the primary suspect in the incident and issued a federal arrest warrant on July 9. He faces charges of attempted murder of a federal officer and discharging a firearm during and in furtherance of a crime of violence.

Authorities say the officer was wounded during the attack, but details about their condition have not been released. The ongoing investigation has led to the activation of a BLUE Alert, signaling a serious threat to law enforcement and public safety.

Song is considered armed and dangerous. The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to his arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI or local law enforcement immediately.

What Is a BLUE Alert?

Criteria for a BLUE Alert in Texas:

  • A law enforcement officer has been killed or seriously injured.

  • The suspect poses a serious risk to the public or law enforcement.

  • Sufficient identifying information (vehicle description, license plate, etc.) is available.

  • The investigating agency has requested the alert be issued through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
